About The Position

With limited supervision, the Bakery Assistant Manager supports the overall operation of the Bakery Department, including driving sales, achieving profit goals, and maintaining exceptional product quality. Departments typically generate between $2.5 million and $7 million annually, depending on store location. This role ensures bakery products are prepared and presented according to company standards and customer preferences while fostering a safe, clean, and team-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 1–3 years of bakery, food service, or supervisory experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of bakery operations, including cakes, breads, bagels, donuts, and specialty items
  • Ability to safely operate bakery equipment such as ovens and mixers
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook) and inventory/order systems
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
  • Ability to delegate tasks, provide clear direction, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Ensure displays are fully stocked, properly rotated, and visually appealing with accurate signage
  • Monitor and execute daily production plans to meet business needs
  • Maintain high standards of product quality, freshness, and presentation
  • Promote products through suggestive selling and cross-merchandising techniques
  • Review sales reports to identify trends and opportunities to achieve departmental goals
  • Place vendor orders and manage product transfers as needed
  • Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory processes
  • Support shrink control and product management to maximize profitability
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing team members
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback, including 90-day and mid-year Performance Chats
  • Partner with the Department Manager on annual performance appraisals
  • Create and manage team schedules in the HRIS system at least two weeks in advance
  • Ensure accurate timekeeping for weekly payroll processing
  • Lead and participate in department communication meetings
  • Address performance and disciplinary matters in a timely, professional manner
  • Ensure compliance with all employment laws and company policies
  • Maintain compliance with all health codes, food safety, sanitation, and safety regulations
  • Ensure daily and periodic cleaning tasks are completed to standard
  • Represent the department at monthly Safety Committee meetings
  • Attend department BASH and strategy meetings
  • Stay current with industry trends by participating in trade shows and “one idea” trips
  • Support innovation and continuous improvement within the department
  • Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned
