About The Position

This role involves preparing a variety of baked goods, including bread, rolls, muffins, biscuits, pies, cakes, cookies, puddings, gelatins, sweet dough, and other pastries or desserts. The baker will follow standard or complex recipes, check the production schedule to determine daily baking needs, and accurately measure and mix ingredients. Responsibilities also include cutting, wrapping, serving, and storing prepared items, as well as maintaining a clean work area by practicing "Clean as You Go" principles. The position may also involve performing other appropriate duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance for all kitchen equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper food sanitation and storage practices.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic and simple record keeping.
  • Knowledge of portion control and ability to determine portions/servings in a container/pan.
  • Knowledge of the characteristics of various foods prepared (e.g., color, consistency, volume, cooking time).
  • Knowledge of cooking methods including baking, grilling, frying, steaming, boiling, etc.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions such as worksheets, menus, and schedules.
  • Ability to follow standard recipe cards and worksheets.
  • Ability to use standardized measuring cups, spoons, knives, forks, large kitchen utensils, pots and pans.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Previous experience as a baker in a large institutional kitchen or minimum two years cooking experience in the food service industry.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Solid work ethics.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate in food handling/sanitation methods, or ServSafe certified preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares bread, rolls, muffins, biscuits, pies, cakes, cookies, puddings, gelatins, sweet dough and other pastries or desserts in quantities using standard or complex recipes.
  • Checks production schedule to determine variety and quantity of goods to be baked daily.
  • Measures and mixes ingredients, using measuring cups and spoons or other measuring devices.
  • Cuts, wraps, serves and stores all prepared pastries and desserts.
  • Cleans area of responsibility and practices "Clean as You Go".
  • Perform other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.
