About The Position

American Track's Backhoe Operator I is an hourly-rated skilled craft position supporting railroad construction and maintenance projects. The operator performs a variety of tasks as project workflow requires, including operating a backhoe and specialty railroad machinery such as a Tamper machine and Ballast Regulator. The position is intended to include operation of both backhoes and on-track machines. Some travel and weekend work should be expected. This is an evergreen posting used to collect applications for future openings. Requirements

At least 1 year of experience operating a backhoe.

Experience in a railroad construction environment.

Responsibilities

Operate all machinery safely.
Set up heavy construction equipment.
Perform proper pre-start and daily maintenance, including lubrication and required documentation.
Keep equipment clean and well-maintained and perform required maintenance.
Operate equipment to grade or redistribute earth.
Operate equipment to move, load, or unload material.
Install equipment or attachments on machinery or related structures.
Signal directions or warnings to coworkers.
Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
Locate underground services, such as pipes and wires, before beginning work.
Study instructions, plans, and diagrams to establish work requirements.
Meet grade plan requirements and set grade standards.
Lead a crew and delegate work within the work scope.
Understand production and quantity requirements.
Make decisions based on verifiable standards.
Perform incidental work items and duties included within other crafts, including operating on-track machinery.
Assist crews with necessary labor as needed.
Be willing and able to train on the machine and train others.
