About The Position

The WEX Summer Internship Program is a 13-week paid program running from late May to mid-August, designed to provide interns with real-world experience and skill development. Interns will work on impactful projects, receive mentorship, and participate in professional development and learning experiences. High-performing interns may have opportunities to lead initiatives. The program offers remote, hybrid, and onsite options, with the goal of converting top interns to full-time or offering extended roles. As a Software Engineer on the WEX Technology team, you will collaborate with Product Managers and customers to understand employer challenges and design software solutions using the latest technologies and test-driven development practices.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Strong proficiency in Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) paired with hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot, and PostgreSQL.
Exposure to AWS cloud infrastructure and mobile application development concepts.
Practical ability to leverage AI tools, explore modern AI trends, and construct functional AI agents for project workflows.
Strong analytical problem-solving skills, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

Develop Full-Stack & Mobile Systems: Apply data structures and algorithms to build scalable backend services with Java and Spring Boot, alongside mobile application components.
Database & Cloud Integration: Design PostgreSQL schemas, optimize queries, and deploy resilient microservices on AWS cloud infrastructure.
Construct Practical AI Solutions: Leverage modern AI tools and trends to build AI agents, automate workflows, and accelerate project delivery.
Learn & Collaborate: Partner with senior engineers to apply software design best practices, write thoroughly tested code, and ship features during the internship.
