About The Position

The WEX Summer Internship Program is a 13-week paid program running from late May to mid-August, designed to provide interns with real-world experience and skill development. Interns will work on impactful projects, contribute to WEX's mission, and receive mentorship, professional development, and weekly learning experiences. High-performing interns may have opportunities to lead initiatives. WEX offers remote, hybrid, and onsite options, with the goal of bringing top interns back full-time or offering extended roles. This role involves working alongside engineers and Product Managers on complex distributed systems challenges, focusing on core software engineering principles, building backend components, and experimenting with AI agents in the cloud within an evolving tech stack driven by AI-assisted and spec-driven development.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or related field and will have completed at least your Sophomore year of school at the start of the internship.
Strong proficiency in C#, .NET, and Object-Oriented design fundamentals.
Foundational understanding of identity and security protocols (OAuth, OIDC, JWT, or Passkeys).
Hands-on exposure to AWS, Docker containerization, and GitHub CI/CD workflows.

Nice To Haves

Experience or interest in building AI skill-based agents, along with basic Python scripting skills.

Responsibilities

Write clean, scalable code using C# / .NET based on strong Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.
Integrate secure authentication and authorization protocols (OAuth, OIDC, JWT, Passkeys) into application workflows.
Containerize applications using Docker and manage automated CI/CD pipelines on AWS using GitHub.
Collaborate with senior engineers to explore, build, and integrate skill-based AI agents and productivity scripting.
