In this role, you will work with a talented team to design and develop Apple’s perimeter security solution, which safeguards mission-critical services and systems from a wide range of security threats. It is a world-class solution that offers protection across various network layers, web application firewall (WAF) capabilities, authentication offloading, traffic management, and more. It provides increased availability, fault tolerance, and access control for Apple’s internal and external applications and services. We are looking for a self-directed, talented Software Engineer to design and develop the control plane of our security platform. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Data Plane and other cross-functional teams to build novel features for the platform. The ideal candidate will be hands-on with coding and have expertise in building and tuning high-performance services and in creating robust, scalable distributed systems.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of software development experience.
• Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
• Mastery of Core Java, OOP, multithreading, collections, and exception handling.
• Experience with Hibernate or JPA for object-relational mapping.
• Proficient in building RESTful web services and APIs.
• Expertise in JVM tuning, profiling, and optimizing Java applications.
• Familiar with Docker and Kubernetes for container orchestration.
• Good understanding of IP networking, BGP, NAT, and TCP/IP.
• Good understanding of HTTP/HTTPS proxies.
• Experience building control plane systems, Kubernetes APIs, and Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs).
• Innovative, thinks outside the box, and has a strong drive for excellence.
• Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design and implementation of scalable, low-latency batch and real-time data pipelines to aggregate, process, and analyze massive volumes of security data.
• Architect, deploy, and scale highly resilient micro-services and platform infrastructure supporting mission-critical, customer-facing anti-abuse engines.
• Champion a "You Build It, You Own It" engineering culture by setting architectural standards and taking end-to-end accountability for system health, performance, deployment automation, and operational readiness.
• Architect robust system automation, auto-healing mechanisms, chaos testing, and CI/CD pipelines to guarantee business continuity and rapid disaster recovery.
• Drive the adoption of AI-assisted development tools and modern software engineering practices across the team to accelerate development velocity, elevate code quality, and solve multi-domain technical challenges.
• Design and optimize large-scale distributed NoSQL, relational, and in-memory data architectures for real-time risk evaluation, pattern matching, and high-frequency aggregate state lookup.
• Define and implement enterprise-grade observability, telemetry, and alerting strategies to proactively identify performance degradation, data quality issues, and security threats.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, while partnering with cross-functional security researchers, data scientists, and senior leadership across Apple to drive long-term technical strategy.
