About The Position

Scribe is looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join their Core Engineering team. This team powers the document workflows that millions of people rely on daily, including viewing, editing, embedding, and exporting content, as well as the integrations that connect Scribe to a customer's stack. The engineer will ship well-scoped backend work across these core systems, building technical judgment alongside an experienced team while contributing to both existing product surfaces and new, greenfield projects. Requirements

3+ years of experience building backend applications
Solid experience with Python
Can optimize endpoint performance and database queries in code you own
Strong advocate for automated testing
Familiar with engineering best practices and eager to deepen them
User-centric, empathetic, and passionate about your work

Nice To Haves

Experience with Django (not required, but a big plus)
Startup experience (not required, but we build and move fast!)

Responsibilities

Build and ship backend features in our Django monolith, spanning core document workflows (viewing, editing, embeds, exports) as well as new greenfield projects that expand what Scribe can do
Improve performance and reliability by optimizing database queries, endpoints, and caching layers in well-scoped areas
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver intuitive and reliable experiences at scale
Incorporate feedback from teammates to continuously grow your craft
Write thoughtful code reviews, solid tests, and pay attention to observability and performance in your work
