About The Position

We’re looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our Core Engineering Team, which powers some of the most essential experiences at Scribe: document viewing and editing, embedding and exporting content, and supporting key integrations. Millions of users rely on these workflows every day. In this role, you'll deliver well-scoped backend work across our core document features, growing your technical judgment alongside an experienced team. You'll learn our systems, contribute high-quality code, and partner with engineers, PMs, and designers to ship reliable product experiences.

Requirements

3+ years of experience building backend applications
Solid experience with Python
Can optimize endpoint performance and database queries in code you own
Strong advocate for automated testing
Familiar with engineering best practices and eager to deepen them
User-centric, empathetic, and passionate about your work

Nice To Haves

Experience with Django (not required, but a big plus)
Startup experience (not required, but we build and move fast!)

Responsibilities

Build and ship backend features in our Django monolith, spanning core document workflows (viewing, editing, embeds, exports) as well as new greenfield projects that expand what Scribe can do
Improve performance and reliability by optimizing database queries, endpoints, and caching layers in well-scoped areas
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver intuitive and reliable experiences at scale
Incorporate feedback from teammates to continuously grow your craft
Write thoughtful code reviews, solid tests, and pay attention to observability and performance in your work
