As a Backend Engineer, you will own the end-to-end delivery of medium-to-large features and components, working autonomously within team-aligned boundaries. You will design and implement reliable, scalable backend systems, proactively improve team efficiency, mentor peers, and drive measurable impact on product and business metrics. You will act as a strong individual contributor who takes ownership, breaks down complex work, identifies and removes bottlenecks, and collaborates cross-functionally to ensure smooth, high-quality delivery.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of hands-on software development experience ( preferred in backend with PHP/Laravel).
Solid understanding of OOP, SOLID principles, design patterns.
Proven ability to design scalable modules, data models, and interfaces; experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL), complex queries, schema design.
Advanced hands-on experience with caching (Redis), queuing systems, Git branching strategies, and CI/CD practices.
Comfortable owning production services: writing comprehensive tests, implementing monitoring/alerting, resolving incidents independently.
Track record of delivering stable, performant features that impact team/product metrics with minimal post-launch issues.
Strong analytical/problem-solving skills; able to break down work, estimate realistically, identify risks, and make informed trade-offs.
Excellent collaboration & communication skills: explains technical concepts clearly, writes clear specs/docs, gives respectful/constructive feedback, builds relationships across roles.
Familiarity with agile methodologies and tools like Jira.
Proficiency in English (verbal & written); Arabic is a strong plus.

Nice To Haves

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and serverless/containerized architectures.
Previous work in high-traffic e-commerce, food delivery, or on-demand marketplaces.
Exposure to microservices, event-driven systems, or performance optimization at scale.
Experience ensuring compliance with privacy/KYC regulations in collaboration with product/legal teams.
Fluency in Arabic and English; French is a bonus.

Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and delivery of medium–large features and system components over 1–3 month timelines, owning them end-to-end from breakdown to production.
Make technical decisions within your scope, escalate only long-term/cross-team trade-offs, and manage risks, dependencies, and timelines with minimal oversight.
Design full modules or feature areas independently: define responsibilities, boundaries, clear interfaces, data models, and predictable contracts for other teams.
Break down features into phases, provide realistic estimates based on dependencies, and deliver stable, production-ready code that handles edge cases and prevents regressions.
Enhance team efficiency by extending existing solutions, creating automation, applying conventions, implementing monitoring/alerting, improving tooling/onboarding, removing workflow bottlenecks, and documenting patterns/runbooks.
Write maintainable, well-tested code (unit + integration) for moderately complex tasks with multiple dependencies; opportunistically refactor while shipping.
Perform thorough code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and troubleshoot incidents calmly in your domain using monitoring signals.
Collaborate proactively with engineers, PMs, QA, DevOps, and other functions to resolve ambiguity, align on decisions, and keep delivery unblocked.
Provides informal mentorship and helps peers improve through pairing and guidance.
Surface ambiguity early, influence team technical approaches through clear reasoning, and contribute to team-level architecture/design discussions.
Represent engineering values in interviews, buddy new hires, and help maintain a healthy, high-performing team culture.
