About The Position

The YMCA of Three Rivers is seeking a passionate Back on Track Facilitator to join their team. This role involves supporting youth who are temporarily suspended from school by building trusted relationships, identifying root causes of behavior, assisting with schoolwork, and facilitating workshops. The facilitator will also create and manage challenging behaviors in a positive way, establish strong partnerships with schools, and maintain communication with parents and caregivers. The goal is to shift the impact of suspension from punitive to a meaningful intervention that fosters positive behavioral changes and supports academic and social-emotional development, helping students re-engage in school life. Hours will follow the school schedule during the school year, with potential adjustments during summer holidays.

Requirements

  • Experience working with youth (12-17 yrs.) from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
  • Experience working with youth and families.
  • Post-secondary education in Child and Youth Work, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Superior communication skills.
  • Interpersonal and facilitation skills needed to work effectively and collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders including families, schools, and community partners.
  • Commitment to assisting each youth develop new skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve set goals.
  • Key competencies: Relationship building, adaptability, communication, diversity, interpersonal skills, self-management, and teamwork.
  • Regular travel across the region is required.
  • Ability to arrange own transportation to various sites.
  • A valid G driver’s license and full-time vehicle access are strongly recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with local middle and high schools to offer support to youth temporarily suspended from school.
  • Connect and build trusted relationships with youth through individual meetings and group workshops.
  • Help youth identify root causes of behaviors that have resulted in suspension.
  • Support youth with assigned schoolwork.
  • Create and facilitate workshops.
  • Manage challenging behaviors and redirect negative behaviors in a positive and supportive way.
  • Establish strong partnerships with schools through regular communication, setting reasonable objectives and goals for youth upon their return.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and caregivers throughout the youth’s participation in the program and during the follow-up process.
  • Support students upon their return to school, following up and checking in, and providing help as needed.
  • Provide a full day, safe, caring environment where both the academic and social/emotional/behavioral development needs of the suspended student are supported.
