The Back Office Technician is responsible for performing a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. The Back Office Technician prepares patients for examination and assists other optical professionals in providing treatment to the eyes. This role ensures a positive and professional environment where patients feel comfortable, prepares patients for treatment, and assists doctors. The technician collects and documents patient complaints, verifies ocular and medical health history, and obtains necessary consents. Key responsibilities include performing refractions, visual acuity assessments, intraocular pressure tests, and various diagnostic imaging procedures such as Fundus photos, Visual Field tests, Fluorescein Angiography, and Indocyanine Green Angiography. The technician also administers topical ophthalmic and dilation medications, maintains exam rooms, provides patient education, and ensures accurate documentation in the CareCoud/EMR system. Additionally, the role requires maintaining professional appearance and demeanor, adhering to company policies, and complying with state and federal regulations like OSHA, HIPAA, and ADA. Driving patients to other clinics may be required in some locations.
