About The Position

The Back End Mill Specialist will work systematically and closely with all mills and Technology SMEs to continuously improve performance through effective troubleshooting, incorporating best practices and processes to impact the bottom line in a continuous and sustainable manner. The BEM Specialist should have extensive experience and knowledge in all areas of Pulp, Utilities, Pulp and Power production, and process improvements. They will work closely with Business Unit Managers (BUMs), Area Plant Managers (APMs), and other professionals within these areas across Sylvamo mills globally. A high level of collaboration and cooperation among mill professionals and Technology SMEs is expected to effectively develop and implement operational and strategic goals and achieve targets: Safely, On Schedule or earlier, On Budget or better, and ensure the overall performance is as expected or better. The overall performance includes Quality, Competitive cost, and Systematizing learning/procedures to drive continuous improvement toward customer focus and business strategies.

Requirements

Greater than 15 years of experience with the Pulping process from wood procurement through high-density tower.
Management/operations experience at pulp mills.
Experience with major Pulping/Boilers OEMs.
Process engineering/control roles at Pulp & Paper mills.
Engineering/Technical college degree.
Pulp & Papermaking skills courses.

Nice To Haves

Data analysis, Lean Six Sigma, PDCA, RCFA and Troubleshooting skills.

Act as a role model, actively sharing Safety and Environmental experiences across the globe to advise and support site efforts to sustain a culture of prevention, teamwork, and caring for each other, as we work to achieve and sustain an injury-free workplace.
Stay fully connected with Mill Teams in the Pulp/Power/Recovery/Utilities areas to understand short-, mid-, and long-term needs and opportunities to continuously improve performance.
Jointly identify and implement actions to systematically eliminate Physical, Human, and LATENT gaps in a sustainable manner.
Jointly support the production areas to implement effective actions to deliver sales volumes, properly addressing customers’ expectations, while maintaining quality to drive company profitability goals.
Ensure working closely with all other Process, Reliability, and other Technology SMEs to integrate actions that can maximize potential benefits and guarantee a holistic approach and no competitive initiatives are implemented across the mill system which may negatively impact the overall business bottom line.
