The Back-End Dept Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and driving efficiencies in back-end operational activities, ensuring that these operations do not negatively impact the customer or their ability to shop the store. This includes managing the receiving and stocking of inventory, assembling product, controlling freight flow, area recovery, and delivery staging. The supervisor ensures products are stocked and fronted according to planograms, and that aisles are kept clear and neat. They also drive the completion of activities that support an efficient and safe delivery process, such as picking and staging product for delivery. During the overnight shift, this manager is often the only key-carrying manager in the building and is responsible for these activities. Additionally, the role involves acting as Manager-on-Duty (MOD), providing full leadership over the store, driving engagement, customer service, staffing, and operational efficiency. This includes walking the store, observing interactions, providing coaching, ensuring associates are prepared, managing staffing for customer traffic, shifting associates as needed, managing response to call buttons, validating cleanliness and safety, and handing off shift observations to the next MOD. Non-MOD activities like customer complaints and management approvals are funneled to appropriate leaders. For stores with parcel operations, the role ensures accurate and efficient picking, packing, and shipping of parcel orders.
