The Back-End Dept Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and driving efficiencies in back-end operational activities, ensuring these operations do not negatively impact the customer or their ability to shop the store. This includes managing the receiving and stocking of inventory, assembling product, controlling freight flow, area recovery, and delivery staging. The supervisor ensures products are stocked and fronted according to planograms, and drives the completion of activities that support an efficient and safe delivery process. During the overnight shift, this manager is often the only key-carrying manager in the building and is responsible for these activities. Additionally, the role involves acting as Manager-on-Duty (MOD), providing full leadership over the store, driving engagement, customer service, staffing, and operational efficiency. This includes walking the store, observing interactions, coaching associates, ensuring specialty and pro areas are staffed, shifting associates as needed, managing responses to call buttons, validating clean and safe aisles, and handing off shift observations to the next MOD. Non-MOD activities such as customer complaints and management approvals are funneled to appropriate non-MOD leaders. For stores with parcel operations, the role ensures accurate and efficient picking, packing, and shipping of parcel orders.
