The Class B Lineman Underground is a semi-skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This position works at various locations and may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. The role involves working safely on energized and de-energized underground systems, stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, and installing various electrical components. Troubleshooting primary and secondary systems, replacing fuses, and clearing faulted circuits are key responsibilities. The position frequently involves working with energized high voltage systems, requiring skill and care to ensure safety. Maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools is also part of the job. The role requires the ability to perform rigorous physical labor, identify voltage levels, understand induced voltage, and use specific tools like a load buster. It also includes capabilities in installing transformers, setting poles, understanding equipment setup and grounding, working at heights and in confined spaces, and properly using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Phasing out lines, obtaining a one shot on a recloser, and conducting pre-job briefings are also essential skills. A willingness to work on live high voltage distribution power lines and safely install/remove mechanical jumpers is required.
