About The Position

Join a large-scale data migration programme for an international software provider in a regulated, audited sector. You will work in a small, senior delivery team alongside the client’s engineering squads, migrating millions of records from a legacy system into a modern Azure environment. The work involves strict reconciliation standards, accountability for data integrity, and direct contact with the client’s technical leadership. You will design, build, and operate ETL pipelines from legacy SQL Server databases to Azure SQL; investigate and document source schemas when documentation is incomplete; and implement validation and reconciliation logic for initial and delta loads. You will collaborate with a Business Analyst on mappings and transformation rules, run migration rehearsals, support cutover, follow ITIL-aligned production change and release processes, resolve production data incidents, and document and hand over the migration components at the end of the engagement.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years delivering data migration or ETL development on enterprise or high-stakes systems.
  • Strong T-SQL skills and hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including SSIS.
  • Practical experience with Azure SQL Database and surrounding Azure data services, including Data Factory and Azure DevOps.
  • Demonstrable data validation and reconciliation experience, including explaining how a migration’s correctness was proven.
  • Comfort working from incomplete documentation, using schema discovery and data profiling as initial steps.
  • Experience handling JSON and XML payloads held inside relational structures.
  • English proficiency at C1 level or above, with daily contact with international stakeholders across European and APAC time zones.
  • Willingness to undergo background screening, including a criminal record check.

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft certification, ideally DP-203 Azure Data Engineer Associate.
  • ITIL Foundation v4 certification, or willingness to certify at the company’s cost.
  • Experience in a regulated, audited sector such as financial services, public sector, or healthcare.
  • Experience with change data capture and keeping systems in sync during a parallel-run period.
  • Exposure to Databricks, Snowflake, or dbt.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and run ETL pipelines migrating data from legacy SQL Server databases into Azure SQL.
  • Profile and reverse-engineer source schemas where documentation is incomplete, and document the reconstructed model.
  • Build validation and reconciliation logic to prove completeness and correctness before the initial load and every delta load.
  • Work with the Business Analyst on data mapping, transformation rules, and the agreed data dictionary.
  • Execute migration rehearsal runs and support cutover.
  • Follow ITIL-aligned change and release management for every production change.
  • Diagnose and resolve production data incidents, and contribute to root cause analysis and permanent fixes.
  • Maintain technical documentation for migration components and hand it over at the end of the engagement.
