About The Position

GFL Environmental is looking for full-time AZ/DZ Emergency Response Operators to support our liquid line of business out of our Thunder Bay, Ontario site. The successful candidates must be trained on MANUAL TRANSMISSION and will be primarily responsible for the collection of various liquid and solid hazardous waste from various customer sites.

Requirements

  • Valid AZ and/or DZ license.
  • Knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
  • Must be able to operate manual transmission.
  • 365 day availability required + on call.
  • Clean shaven (to wear a respirator).
  • Manual dexterity, ability to lift 75+ lbs required.
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with Vacuum Trucks is preferred.
  • Machine operating experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to various incidents such as: Environmental and Industrial spills, Clandestine laboratory decommissioning, Highway incidents involving tractor trailers, accidents, and chemical leaks, Train derailments involving hazardous chemicals, fires, and site safety planning, Marine operations mostly regarding fuel spills into open bodies of water (involving boom deployment and boat operations), Weather event responses involving wind/ice storms, forest fires, and flooding.
  • Perform chemical assessments and advisory services.
  • Work alongside police, fire, EMS, Environment Canada, and other stakeholders.
  • Operate heavy equipment, vacuum trucks, and water blasters.
  • Collection of hazardous and non-hazardous goods.
  • Participate in job-specific and health & safety training as required.
  • Complete work-related documentation and reporting.
  • Perform work in a safe manner, so as not to endanger oneself or others.
  • Report workplace hazards, accidents or other occurrences that may pose a risk to the organization or the safety of oneself or others.
  • Adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety & Insurance Board Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and Employment Standards Act.
  • Participate in team/staff meetings when required.
  • Work in a manner that preserves confidentiality and minimizes risk.
