About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive AWS Systems Engineer to build and maintain foundational infrastructure for enterprise applications. The role streamlines the software development lifecycle by designing scalable infrastructure, automating deployments, and supporting efficient development workflows. The engineer contributes to cloud platform reliability, security, and scalability, with a focus on AWS-native environments and modern engineering practices. The position is onsite in Reston, Virginia, and is expected to move to Herndon, Virginia in early 2027. The schedule is 40 hours per week, with contract core hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The role requires current TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance and U.S. citizenship. Travel is not required.

Requirements

10 or more years of related experience.
Strong experience operating and supporting AWS cloud environments, including high-availability patterns and architectural best practices.
Hands-on experience designing and managing cloud infrastructure with Terraform.
Experience building and maintaining Jenkins CI/CD pipelines for web applications, such as Tomcat and containerized services.
Experience managing source control and development workflows using GitHub.
Experience working in Agile development environments and collaborating with cross-functional software teams.
Strong background managing, hardening, and optimizing RHEL/Rocky Linux systems.
Proficiency in Python or Bash for automation and tool development.
Experience coding with Java to develop infrastructure as code.
Experience securing platform components, including secret management, PKI/encryption, and maintaining documented artifacts for certification.
Ability to maintain architecture diagrams, runbooks, and internal documentation.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
Must currently possess TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.
U.S. citizenship required.

Experience integrating managed database services such as RDS, PostgreSQL, and MySQL into platform architectures.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain foundational infrastructure that supports enterprise applications.
