About The Position

SAIC is seeking an AWS GovCloud Engineer to support an IT Service Management effort for USTRANSCOM located at Scott Air Force Base (AFB) in Illinois. This role is part of the USTC Managed Information Technology Services (MITS) contract, which aims to provide strategic, technical, and program management guidance and support services for the operations and modernization of the combatant command’s infrastructure, systems, and applications. The support will be delivered to the USTC Command, Control, Communications & Cyber Systems Directorate (TCJ6). The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating, supervising, and developing requirements for complex to extremely complex programs from inception to conclusion. This includes providing strategic advice, technical guidance, and expertise to program and project staff, as well as conducting detailed analysis, evaluation, and recommendations for improvements, optimization, development, and maintenance efforts for client-specific or mission-critical challenges. The role also involves consulting with clients to define needs or problems, supervising studies, and leading surveys to collect and analyze data to provide advice and recommend solutions.

Requirements

  • Ability to initiate, supervise, and/or develop requirements from a project’s inception to conclusion for complex to extremely complex programs.
  • Ability to provide strategic advice, technical guidance and expertise to program and project staff.
  • Ability to provide detailed analysis, evaluation and recommendations for improvements, optimization development, and/or maintenance efforts for client-specific or mission critical challenges/issues.
  • Ability to consult with clients to define needs or problems, supervise studies, and lead surveys to collect and analyze data to provide advice and recommend solutions.
  • Experience with AWS GovCloud solutions, including ECS Fargate, EKS, and ECR.
  • Knowledge of blue/green and other zero-downtime deployment patterns.
  • Experience in planning, designing, and managing migrations/re-platforming of complex web infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD, specifically with Terraform modules and GitLab pipelines.
  • Ability to design and maintain highly available ECS Fargate cluster configurations, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency in Linux operations, including RHEL 8/9 command-line administration and production support.
  • Ability to produce technical designs, runbooks, and configuration/change management artifacts aligned to DoD and program standards.
  • Experience with CMS administration (Strapi), including managing permissions, configurations, patches/upgrades, and backups.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Cloud/DevOps engineers and Software Testing Teams, and provide strategic guidance and customer-facing recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Architect & Implement AWS GovCloud solutions emphasizing security, scalability, resiliency; core services include ECS Fargate, EKS, ECR; apply blue/green and other zero‑downtime deployment patterns.
  • Plan, design, and manage migrations/re‑platforming of complex web infrastructure; lead refactoring and modernization targeting ECS Fargate with robust testing.
  • Automate via IaC & CI/CD: maintain and evolve Terraform modules and GitLab pipelines for consistent, audited deployments.
  • Operate for availability: design and maintain highly available ECS Fargate cluster configurations; monitor, troubleshoot, and tune performance.
  • Linux operations: perform RHEL 8/9 command‑line administration and production support.
  • Governance & documentation: produce technical designs, runbooks, and configuration/change management artifacts aligned to DoD and program standards.
  • CMS administration (Strapi): handle admin functions (permissions, configurations, patches/upgrades, backups) for a mission website—limited portion of time.
  • Cross‑functional leadership: collaborate with SAIC Cloud/DevOps engineers and the Software Testing Team; provide strategic guidance and customer‑facing recommendations.
