About The Position

Amazon Web Services Engineer As required by our governmental client, this position requires U.S. Citizenship Cherokee Federal is seeking an AWS Engineer to design, deploy, and support secure, scalable AWS cloud solutions for a federal client. This role focuses on AWS infrastructure, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation), CI/CD automation, cloud security, and DevOps in a regulated government environment. Ideal candidates have 5+ years of AWS experience, strong cloud engineering skills, and experience supporting federal or public sector cloud environments. Salesforce experience, including Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Public Sector Solutions, or MuleSoft, is a plus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with preferred study in Computer Science, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Math, Statistics, Operations Research, or Engineering and a minimum of five (5) years of experience. Seven (7) years of work experience in related field may be substituted for education.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, deploying, and maintaining AWS cloud infrastructure in support of federal or public sector clients.
  • Hands-on experience with core AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, ECS/EKS).
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK).
  • Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security, networking, and identity/access management in a regulated environment.
  • Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions on AWS.
  • Experience working within FedRAMP, ATO, or NIST 800-53 compliance frameworks preferred.
  • AWS certification (e.g., Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or DevOps Engineer) preferred.
  • Salesforce experience, including with any of its products (e.g., Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Public Sector Solutions, MuleSoft), is a bonus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to brief senior government stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government-required background investigation or security clearance as needed.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable, and highly available cloud infrastructure on AWS in support of government mission requirements.
  • Work with government leads and Product Owners to understand technical requirements, clarify scope, and confirm release timing for new infrastructure and enhancement requests.
  • Architect and implement AWS solutions using services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, ECS/EKS, and API Gateway.
  • Build and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK to ensure repeatable, auditable, and version-controlled deployments.
  • Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines (e.g., AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, GitLab CI) to automate build, test, and deployment workflows.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting using CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and related tooling to ensure system health, performance, and operational visibility.
  • Ensure cloud infrastructure is secure, scalable, and maintainable, and aligned with government governance, auditability, security, and compliance expectations (e.g., FedRAMP, agency ATO requirements, NIST 800-53).
  • Configure and manage networking, security groups, encryption, and identity/access controls in accordance with federal security standards.
  • Support integrations between AWS-hosted systems and external platforms (e.g., APIs, middleware, third-party SaaS), confirming data integrity across systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, performance, and deployment issues; document root cause and remediation.
  • Present formal and informal oral and written briefings to government managers; produce executive-ready technical summaries and decision support materials.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
