About The Position

Anovia is seeking an experienced AWS/Azure Migration Consultant on an independent contractor basis to support cloud migration engagements on behalf of our Professional Services clients. Working within a distributed team, this consultant will lead and execute workload migrations, assess existing infrastructure, and deliver cloud-native solutions that meet client requirements for performance, security, and scalability. Day-to-day work spans architecture planning, hands-on migration execution, stakeholder communication, and technical documentation. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience with AWS and Azure migration tooling, a strong grasp of cloud architecture best practices, and the ability to work independently in a client-facing engagement model. You communicate clearly with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, manage your own workload with minimal oversight, and adapt readily to shifting project priorities.

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of hands-on experience in cloud engineering or architecture, with a focus on AWS and/or Azure.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or executing cloud migration projects from scoping through cutover.
  • Proficiency with AWS and Azure migration tooling (AWS Migration Hub, AWS DMS, Azure Migrate, Azure Site Recovery).
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals in cloud environments (VPCs, VNets, DNS, VPN, ExpressRoute/Direct Connect).
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Bicep.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills; able to present findings and recommendations to client stakeholders.
  • Must be based in Canada and able to contract directly with a Canadian entity.
  • Availability to take on engagements on an on-demand basis with variable commitment levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Active AWS or Azure certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or equivalent).
  • Experience with containerization and Kubernetes on managed cloud services (EKS, AKS).
  • Familiarity with FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization strategies.
  • Exposure to hybrid cloud and multi-cloud architectures.
  • Experience working in a managed services or consulting engagement model.

Responsibilities

  • Assess client on-premises or legacy cloud environments to identify migration candidates and establish technical requirements.
  • Design and implement migration architectures across AWS and Azure platforms, including lift-and-shift, re-platforming, and re-architecture approaches.
  • Execute workload migrations using native cloud tooling (AWS Migration Hub, Azure Migrate, and related services).
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders to define scope, timelines, and acceptance criteria for migration deliverables.
  • Produce technical documentation including migration runbooks, architecture diagrams, and post-migration validation reports.
  • Identify and remediate performance, security, or cost issues discovered during and after migration activities.
