About The Position

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Residential Services, the Awake Overnight Shift Supervisor ensures that Residence Counselors or other Direct Support Professionals on the awake overnight shift are trained and working in accordance with their job descriptions, including site-specific awake overnight responsibilities. The incumbent must possess and demonstrate excellent interpersonal verbal communication skills, the ability to interact positively with co-workers and people supported, and the ability to train staff according to Agency policy and practice. This role requires the creation of written reports and documents, the ability to work third shift hours, and the flexibility to drive to any residential site during the shift.

  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office.
  • Obtain and maintain OPWDD Medication Certification.
  • Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Obtain and maintain SCIP-R/PROMOTE Certification.
  • Complete all OPWDD mandatory training.
  • Ability to train staff in providing quality support.
  • Proficient in Agency Learning Management Computer System.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience as a Direct Support Professional, Residence Manager or equivalent.
  • Valid New York State Driver's License.
  • Approved Driver status.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and adhere to all elements of the Agency's CQL outcomes and Core Values and demonstrate knowledge and commitment to the Arc's Mission.
  • Ensure protection from abuse, neglect, mistreatment and exploitation in regard to the health, safety, comfort, and well-being for the people supported by adhering to all related policies.
  • Effectively train new Direct Support Professionals who work the awake overnight shift on the routine and responsibilities of the residence. Provide ongoing training and guidance to all staff who work the awake overnight shift, as needed, to include utilizing Agency computer based training.
  • Conduct unannounced visits at residences to ensure that awake overnight staff are completing and documenting required responsibilities. Provide immediate feedback and/or redirection as required, documenting the discussion and forwarding to appropriate supervisory staff.
  • In the event of a situation requiring the immediate replacement of an awake overnight staff, the Awake Overnight Supervisor may be required to provide coverage up to completing the remainder of the shift.
  • Report issues with staff, people supported, maintenance and safety concerns to the IRA Program Coordinator and Assistant Director, by the next business day.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks and review awake overnight documentation logs for accuracy and follow up on any discrepancies in writing to appropriate supervisory staff.
  • Provide input regarding the job performance of the Direct Support Professionals who work the awake overnight position to the Program Coordinator for the purpose of the Employee Appraisal process.
  • Assist in conducting third shift and early first shift fire drills, as per fire drill schedule and consistent with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide transport to people supported for medical care, or relieve the regular staff member of the residence to transport.
  • Assume responsibility for assuring proper notification of emergencies occurring overnight, following On Call Guidelines and the direction of the administrator on-call.
  • Provide assistance to people supported, as situations occur, per treatment plan; ensuring the level of assistance is appropriate to the individual need in all situations.
  • Successfully complete and maintain medication administration certification. Administer medication as required, completing all related documentation.
  • Assure that the rights of each person supported are upheld and report any violations to the Administrative Team.
  • Adhere to the regulations contained in Part 624.4 and report any violations to the appropriate authority.
  • Develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with the people supported, their families, friends, and neighbors.
  • Provide leadership to, and work alongside Direct Support Professionals.
  • Act as a role model for the people supported, other Direct Support Professionals and members of the community.
  • Advocate for the people supported and their rights when appropriate.
  • Respect the people supported's right to privacy by the appropriate use of written and verbal information and follow all agency and OPWDD guidelines regarding confidentiality.
  • Respond to sensitive matters and/or situations with discretion and professionalism.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of person-centered excellence and personal outcome measures.
  • Promote and adhere to all elements of the Agency's Corporate Compliance and HIPAA policies.
  • Maintain and promote confidentiality in accordance with Agency policies.
  • Comply with all aspects of the Agency's Safety policies.
  • Serve on Agency committees as requested.
  • Attend meetings as dictated by job responsibilities and/or as requested.
  • Attend and complete all mandatory training.
  • Adhere to scheduled hours and submit completed timesheets to supervisor on time each payroll period.
