About The Position

We are seeking an accomplished Associate Vice President (AVP), Global Trade Finance Operations, with deep expertise in international trade finance and a demonstrated ability to lead complex, highly regulated operating environments. The successful candidate will bring comprehensive knowledge of Standby Letters of Credit and Guarantees, Working Capital and Supply Chain Finance, Documentary Letters of Credit, Collections, and Trade Loans. As Global Operations continues to expand, this leader will drive execution of the operating strategy and enable the ongoing growth and performance of our global platform. This role requires a proven record of people leadership, stakeholder management, and influence across functions and geographies. The AVP will partner with Front Office and Product leadership to advance the Working Capital and Supply Chain Finance expansion strategy and will align stakeholders across Compliance, AML, Legal, Risk Management, Technology, and Operations to ensure the requisite operating capabilities are in place. The incumbent will assess and evolve the operating footprint, service model, and resource deployment to strengthen scalability, resilience, and consistent global execution, while sustaining an exceptional client experience. With a strong regulatory and legal orientation, the AVP will provide counsel on new product initiatives and complex transactions, ensuring adherence to applicable local and international laws, regulations, and standards. This position interfaces extensively with globally distributed operations teams and provides leadership to direct reports across regions, time zones, and processing locations. The AVP will set clear expectations and accountability, standardize operating procedures where appropriate, and establish effective forums and escalation pathways to align priorities, strengthen proactive risk management, ensure consistent service delivery, and drive timely resolution of client and control issues across the global operating network. Operational excellence and innovation are central to the mandate. The successful candidate will bring substantial experience building and developing teams, designing fit-for-purpose processes, and driving continuous optimization with a strong emphasis on disciplined execution. Given the importance of speed to execution in a highly competitive market, the AVP will lead delivery from end-to-end design through implementation, adoption, and ongoing performance management. The role also requires broad familiarity with trade finance technology used globally, including experience implementing and integrating new capabilities within existing ecosystems while maintaining strong controls and operational stability.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in global trade finance operations with a focus on United States Trade Finance.
  • In-depth knowledge of Stand-By Letters of Credit and Guarantees, Documentary Letters of Credit, Documentary Collections, and Trade Loans.
  • Subject matter expertise to advise on structure complex deals and ability to identity and communicate the structure, compliance and credit risk to operations and partners.
  • Proficiency in trade finance rules and regulations, AML and compliance, Sanctions, Antiboycott requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in developing and implementing operational strategies to support business growth.
  • Proficiency in navigating complex organizational structures and driving change initiatives.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices in trade finance operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to evolving market trends and technologies.
  • Experience in implementing and integrating new technologies into existing infrastructure.
  • Prior experience in process optimization and design.
  • University Degree or equivalent work experience

  • Certificate for Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS), would be an asset.
  • Certificate for Specialist in demand Guarantees (CSDG), would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and execution of the global operating model and service strategy for Trade Finance.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing, globally distributed Trade Finance Operations organization, including direct reports across regions and time zones.
  • Establish and sustain strong partnerships and operating interfaces with Front Office, Product, Technology, Compliance, AML, Legal, Risk, and external partners to deliver consistent outcomes across the global operating network.
  • Implement global management routines, governance forums, and escalation protocols to enable standardized execution, transparent decision-making, and timely issue resolution across regions.
  • Drive continuous improvement to enhance efficiency, reduce operational risk, and improve turnaround times and service quality.
  • Lead change initiatives to deliver new products and services, navigating organizational complexity and aligning delivery to business strategy.
  • Define, monitor, and report performance metrics and KPIs to support operational excellence and effective governance.
  • Provide oversight of execution and risk management across Trade Finance products, optimizing client outcomes and enabling sustainable business growth.
  • Assess and implement Trade Finance solutions that mitigate risk and improve efficiency across international trade activities.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable regulations, internal policies, and control standards; escalate issues as required and drive timely remediation.
  • Develop and deliver training and enablement programs to strengthen Trade Finance technical capability and controls awareness.
  • Provide operational leadership on complex and/or high-risk transactions, partnering with Origination and Product teams to deliver within risk appetite.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, regulatory developments, and enabling technologies across Canada, the U.S., and key international markets.
  • Mentor and develop talent, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
