About The Position

The Specialty Deposit RM is responsible for both client-facing business development and portfolio management. This role focuses on identifying and acquiring new specialty deposit clients, as well as managing a portfolio of existing clients in sectors such as Title & Escrow, Property Management, HOA, Retentions, Law Firms, and QSF deposits.

Requirements

  • U.S. College graduate with a major in related fields.
  • 5-7 years (for AVP) or 7-10 years of commercial lending and banking experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of lending regulations and credit/underwriting practices.
  • Strong loan negotiation experience (rates, terms, collateral requirements).
  • Previous underwriting experience in the relevant area of commercial lending.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Bank’s credit policy, risk management, underwriting requirements, and loan servicing.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of commercial and specialty group banking products and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to cross-sell products.
  • PC proficient.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently to structure loans and/or lines of credit.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high production and team environment.
  • Excellent time management skills and accustomed to working with deadlines.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and accountability for decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of Bank personnel.

  • Bilingual (English/Mandarin or Cantonese) is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and bring new specialty deposit clients to the Bank, meeting annual goals set by management.
  • Ensure compliance with Bank and regulatory requirements, emphasizing client service and adherence to timeframes.
  • Negotiate and structure primary loan terms with clients, potentially circulating concept memos before issuing term sheets/LOIs.
  • Collaborate with underwriters, loan assistants, and support staff to prepare Credit Commitment Reports (CCRs) for new loans, renewals, amendments, and annual reviews.
  • Present CCRs to approval authorities, taking ultimate responsibility for the content.
  • Work with loan assistants and support staff to manage the closing process for loans.
  • Review loan documents for accuracy, whether internally prepared or by outside counsel.
  • Ensure each credit is properly risk-rated according to the Bank's system.
  • Review client accounts to identify, evaluate, and address potential credit quality issues, maximizing credit quality and minimizing risk/loss.
  • Lead the development of new specialty deposit client relationships with established escrow companies, managing client dialogue, maximizing cross-sell opportunities, and reinforcing long-term relationships.
  • Lead strategic dialogue with specialty deposit clients, introducing value-added ideas from within the Bank.
  • Interact with the Underwriting Department and Credit Administration to secure necessary approvals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal business partners.
  • Act as a first line of defense to filter risks and avoid unwanted exposure.
  • Conduct due diligence calls or visits as appropriate.
  • Prepare concept memos for new opportunities, identifying risks and providing credit analysis.
  • Articulate a convincing case to support risk opinions.
  • Prepare portfolio analytical reports and presentations, staying informed about industry trends and macro issues impacting the portfolio, and recommending changes or actions for specific clients or groups.
