About The Position

Providing a safe, secure environment for our workforce and visitors is essential at Nationwide. Our Security team provides protective services and assists associates with security and safety-related issues. If you are safety focused, passionate about leading associates with attention to detail oriented and ready to serve and protect our associates and the public, we want to know more about you! As a Security leader and member of the Protective Services Leadership Team, you’ll be responsible for setting and implementing the strategic vision and provide oversight to all facets of Nationwide’s physical campus security. You’ll lead initiatives across the company including facility security, physical aspects of cyber security, investigations, threat management. and risk mitigation strategy for our core locations. You’ll have oversite of team of security professionals in our core campus locations and will be responsible for the development and the audit/compliance requirements for our primary locations to assure protection levels are met, liability is reduced, and the Nationwide brand is protected.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a business or security related field of study preferred.
  • Must maintain a security provider license.
  • 10 or more years of progressive experience in the corporate security environment.
  • Proven experience managing a corporate security function.
  • Skilled at risk management, financial management, associate development and engagement.
  • Strategic thinker that anticipates the needs of the organization and connects those needs to emerging practices and future technologies to form a security strategy that evolves with the organization.
  • Strong leadership; oral and written communication; collaboration, planning; program development; strategy development and execution skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional designations such as the Certified Protection Professional (CPP), from the American Society for Industrial Security, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a security strategy to identify, prioritize, and implement risk mitigation initiatives for Nationwide's primary locations.
  • Oversees and maintains protective services plans for primary locations.
  • Assures comprehensive risk analysis is conducted to identify and address gaps through the integration of appropriate security tools, policy development and/or senior leader education/involvement.
  • Creates and leads a security governance framework to assure compliance to regulatory and internal policy standards.
  • Manages risk and exception processes through the establishment and maintenance of our corporate risk policy reporting to senior leadership and developing solutions to address emerging risks.
  • Reduces company liability through the maintenance of security policies, programs, and a highly trained security team.
  • Protects the brand image of Nationwide by providing security services to constituents that include customers and visitors to all our properties, including but not limited to the Arena District, Des Moines Art Park, Grandview Yard and Hayden Road.
  • Maintains a security provider license to conform to regulatory requirements allowing Nationwide to provide security services to third party constituents.
  • Manages liability and continued refinement of an armed security presence and response program.
  • Responsible for establishing key performance indicators, metrics, and benchmarks to measure the cost and effectiveness of the security risk management program for core locations and the communication of security program value throughout the company.
  • Influences spending across business units for the protection of assets and associates.
  • Provides leadership to direct and indirect reports across the company.
  • Develops and leads an engaging workplace that provides associates the opportunity to learn and develop their careers.
  • Provides leadership during emergencies including coordination with enforcement agencies and emergency services.
  • Maintains a leadership role in crisis management.
  • Manages response to threats to the company or individuals through direct intervention and/or by developing contingency plans to mitigate the risk or threat.
  • Supports the executive protection program to address threats that may impact our senior leaders.
  • Maintains a high profile in the industry, influencing regulatory and statutory requirements for the security industry worldwide.
  • Works with various organizations including law enforcement agencies, professional security associations, to implement industry programs that improve the professionalism of the security industry and provide positive brand recognition for Nationwide.
  • Works with local government and business leaders to promote and provide guidance on security matters that influence the safety of our surrounding properties for Nationwide campuses.
  • Builds strong, collaborative work relationships across the organization and regularly communicates with leaders to effectively manage program effectiveness and support the Protective Services mission.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
