About The Position

Allied World is hiring an AVP for its North American Claims Group. The role combines complex claims handling with team, technical, customer, and compliance leadership. The successful candidate will manage non-standard and complex claims, assess coverage and litigation, negotiate settlements, oversee reserves and claim payments, and identify potentially fraudulent claims. They will lead and mentor claims team members, provide technical leadership, manage vendors, build customer and intermediary relationships, support business development, and prepare claim and executive reports. The position requires at least seven years of relevant experience, including experience managing a team in the involved line(s) of business, and a bachelor's degree. The stated annualized base salary range is $120,000–$158,000. Requirements

• Relevant academic qualifications and a minimum of 7 years of solid work experience, including experience managing a team in the involved line(s) of business.
• Bachelor's degree.
• Solid experience independently handling complex or legal cases in the involved line(s) of business, with sound judgment and strong negotiating and analytical ability.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• Self-motivation and the ability to work independently while handling a diverse range of claims and responsibilities.
• Strong customer-service orientation.
• Ability to work well in a team, remain calm under pressure, and thrive in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

• Preferably holds or is pursuing a professional insurance qualification such as ANZIIF or ACII.
• Meet minimum local mandatory qualification requirements where relevant.

Responsibilities

• Review, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve non-standard and complex claims within designated authority and established standards and procedures.
• Analyze coverage promptly, prepare accurate and timely coverage positions, and manage litigation by interacting with insureds, brokers, defense counsel, underwriters, and other parties.
• Set up, investigate, and authorize claim payments within specified authority; negotiate and settle claims within authority; and recommend reserves beyond authority to appropriate management.
• Identify and investigate suspicious or potentially fraudulent claims, take appropriate action, and keep relevant stakeholders informed.
• Manage the team for the involved line(s) of business and provide or recommend training, mentoring, and guidance to team members.
• Demonstrate management and mentoring skills and be able to manage the team in the VP's absence, with supervision.
• Provide internal and external technical leadership on claims matters in which the company participates.
• Establish timely and appropriate reserves and report claim developments and trends regularly to claims and underwriting management.
• Proactively manage vendors.
• Manage customer and intermediary interactions efficiently, courteously, and promptly; address and resolve customer feedback or complaints.
• Meet with existing or prospective clients, intermediaries, and brokers to promote Claims and support business development.
• Ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and policy requirements, internally and externally.
• Prepare reports and analyses as needed, including executive claim reports for quarterly presentation to senior executives and claim and statistical reports as required.
