About The Position

The Assistant Vice President, Global CX & Marketing, Strategy and Planning sits at the intersection of customer experience, marketing, and enterprise planning. The role shapes integrated strategy across Sun Life’s global business, strengthens planning governance, and connects teams around shared priorities and measurable outcomes. As chief of staff to the Chief Experience and Marketing Officer, you will drive agenda-setting, priority sequencing, and execution of critical initiatives. With an enterprise-wide mandate, you will translate CX and Marketing priorities, client insights, market signals, and performance data into clear strategies, executive narratives, and actionable recommendations for senior leadership and Board forums. You will also lead initiatives that strengthen the function’s impact and anticipate shifts in customer expectations. This role requires analytical rigor, executive presence, and strong enterprise judgment, with the ability to translate complexity into clarity, mobilize teams, and elevate Global CX & Marketing through concise, insight-led communication. Please note this role will require regular presence at our Toronto One York Office.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in Strategy, Consulting, Client Experience, or Marketing, with enterprise or multi-market accountability
  • Proven ability to lead integrated planning and operations functions within complex, matrixed, global organizations
  • Deep expertise in enterprise planning, investment governance, and performance management
  • Proven success leading organizational maturity and standardization across diverse global teams
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams across geographic regions and business units
  • Experience building and implementing planning governance frameworks and decision-making models
  • Advanced capability translating data, analysis, and insights into executive-ready recommendations and narratives
  • Advanced PowerPoint and storytelling capabilities, from storyboard development to executive-ready deliverables
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills; confident engaging C-suite and executive forums
  • Recognized as a trusted advisor to senior executives, able to influence, challenge, and drive decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to respectfully challenge executive assumptions with data-driven insights and principled recommendations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence without formal authority across a large organization
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with competing priorities
  • Strong change leadership capability; proven ability to drive adoption of new planning standards and governance models
  • Resilience and composure under pressure; maintains effectiveness while managing multiple competing executive stakeholder expectations
  • Willingness and flexibility to work across global time zones and cultures (typically requires 1-2 evening meetings a week).
  • University degree required

Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual and ongoing global CX & Marketing planning cycle, integrating strategy, priorities, budgets, and measurable outcomes across Global and Business Group teams.
  • Partner closely with Business Groups (Canada, U.S., Asia) and enterprise stakeholders to ensure alignment, integration, and disciplined trade-offs.
  • Define and continuously evolve global planning standards, processes, and governance to increase maturity and consistency.
  • Coordinate quarterly executive reporting, translating plans and performance into concise, decision-oriented insights.
  • Own end-to-end development of materials for Board of Directors, Executive Team, and CXMO-level forums.
  • Identify, prioritize, and lead strategic initiatives that advance CX & Marketing effectiveness, from problem framing through recommendation and execution.
  • Partner with Client research teams to translate Client insights, market trends and marketing performance metrics into actionable business strategies.
  • Present insights to leadership teams, applying data storytelling best practices, strategic recommendations and framing to support decision-making at senior levels of the organization.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and execution partner to the CXMO and Senior CX & Marketing Leadership Team.
  • Support agenda-setting, priority sequencing, and follow-through on the most critical initiatives.
  • Lead executive coordination, meeting governance, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Manage executive stakeholder relationships across Business Groups and Corporate Leadership to ensure alignment and remove obstacles
  • Elevate the influence and impact of Global CX & Marketing through clear narratives, insights, and enterprise-ready communication.
  • Anticipate macro and cultural trends. Translate societal shifts and evolving consumer values to accurately predict how they will alter everyday customer expectations.
  • Decode conflicting third-party research and macro indicators to deliver clear, actionable intelligence that guides decision-making.
  • Identify early-stage consumer behaviors, micro-trends, and emerging technologies to determine whether they will scale into mass-market habits or remain passing fads.
  • Recognize when a breakthrough digital or service experience in another sector instantly raises the bar, redefining what customers demand from your own organization.
