Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • 8+ years of experience in either a federal government agency, Congressional office, or government relations or public affairs role.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must reside in Washington D.C. metro.

  • JD or advanced degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead federal government relations activities for Sun Life U.S.
  • Plan and execute a comprehensive, proactive, and effective government relations strategy to advance organizational priorities.
  • Serve as the federal government relations contact under the direction of the VP, Head of Government Relations.
  • Identify and develop positions on public policy, legislative, regulatory, and industry issues impacting Sun Life's business priorities.
  • Build and maintain open and effective relationships with federal elected and appointed government officials to mitigate risk, advance priorities, and create opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with business units to develop and implement proactive Congressional and regulatory government relations strategies.
  • Grow relationships between Sun Life leaders and targeted elected and appointed officials.
  • Advise on federal PAC activities, including strategy development for utilizing funds to grow effective relationships with targeted federal elected officials.
  • Maximize Sun Life’s engagement with targeted federal trade associations, industry coalitions, or other groups to create beneficial relationships and influence policy positions.
  • Regularly inform and engage internal stakeholders in ways that advance business priorities.
  • Manage contract lobbying team to grow impact in Congressional and regulatory spaces, among industry stakeholders, and in trade associations.
