About The Position

The AVP, Corporate Development is a national role across the CGL group of companies and will report to the Vice President, Corporate Development & Capital Management. This role is responsible for the execution and management of transactions, implementing mergers, acquisitions, and divestiture strategies, and ongoing management, monitoring, and value preservation of investments within the Corporate Venture Fund (CVC). The position requires preparing detailed financial models, business plans, and presentations for senior leadership and the Board of Directors, as well as conducting primary capital markets and corporate finance research to support the CGL Group strategy. Additionally, the role involves tracking and reporting on the financial and strategic performance of the existing CVC fund.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
  • CFA or CPA designation.
  • Ten (10) + years of experience in corporate development, investment banking, or specialized transaction advisory.
  • Corporate development, private equity, or venture capital experience with a strong emphasis on post-merger integration, portfolio management, and asset valuation/divestitures.
  • Merger and acquisition, joint venture, divestiture strategy and transaction experience, with financial services exposure preferred.
  • Exceptional Excel modeling skills including macros, pivot tables, and sensitivity tables.
  • English language proficiency is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead M&A activities, including negotiation with counterparties and their representatives, while safeguarding the interests of the corporation.
  • Perform primary research to identify and analyze potential acquisition targets and assess strategic fit.
  • Conduct detailed and complex financial modeling and risk analysis, including discounted cash flow modeling and various valuation methodologies.
  • Lead quarterly and annual updates to the CGL Board of Directors.
  • Support fund operations by understanding portfolio company metrics and their trends.
  • Maintain market intelligence within the sectors of existing portfolio companies to benchmark performance, valuation, and exit opportunities.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team to achieve M&A initiatives, fostering a development culture and coaching team members.
