About The Position

Join Barclays as an AVP - Compliance & AI/ML, where you will provide independent review and investigate of models supporting key areas of the business. You will perform technical and data analysis, benchmarking, and challenger modelling across Compliance models, including Financial Crime, Transaction Monitoring, Anti-Money Laundering, and Market/Trade Surveillance. You will assess model performance, data quality, methodology, governance, controls, limitations, and assumptions while ensuring models meet internal standards and regulatory expectations. Working closely with model owners, developers, and senior stakeholders, you will deliver high-quality validation reports and contribute to the continued development of model risk management practices.

Requirements

Experience in model validation and model risk management, including knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to model risk
Understanding of quantitative techniques used to develop and validate Compliance models, particularly Financial Crime, Transaction Monitoring, AML and Market/Trade Surveillance
Experience with statistical, scenario-based and rules-based models, including predictive modelling techniques
Experience developing or validating machine learning models using large datasets
Ability to perform technical analysis, benchmarking and challenger model development, identifying model weaknesses, limitations and assumptions
Analytical, stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to effectively task model owners and developers when required

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of analytical tools and technologies such as Python, R, SAS, Spark, MLlib, Hadoop and/or AWS
Understanding of financial crime typologies, particularly transaction monitoring and market/trade surveillance

Responsibilities

Validation of models for their intended use and scope, commensurate with the complexity and materiality of the models.
Approval or rejection of a model or usage based on assessment of the model’s conceptual soundness, performance under intended use and the clarity of the documentation of the model’s inherent risks, limitations and weaknesses.
Assessment of any compensating controls used to mitigate Model risk.
Documentation of validation findings and recommendations in clear and concise reports, providing actionable insights for model improvement.
Evaluation of the coherence of model interactions and quality of Large Model Framework aggregate results that generate output for regulatory submissions or management decision making and planning.
Design of the framework and methodology to measure and, where possible, quantify model risk, including the assessment of framework level uncertainty.
To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions.
Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function.
Set objectives and coach employees in pursuit of those objectives, appraisal of performance relative to objectives and determination of reward outcomes.
