About The Position

Reporting to the US Commutations Manager, the Commutations AVP is a key role and has significant responsibility in supporting the Commutations Department by driving the actions required to deliver the strategy and goals. Commutations are a core element of the “Enstar effect”.

Requirements

  • 7–10 years of insurance and reinsurance experience, preferably in Claims.
  • Experience negotiating settlements, including commutations or claims.
  • Experience working with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Strong professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating with Claims, Legal, and Actuarial teams within an insurance or reinsurance company.
  • Extensive understanding of insurance and reinsurance products, including their terms, conditions, and application to claims.
  • Extensive understanding of legislative and legal frameworks across major insurance markets.
  • Understanding of actuarial pricing principles and legal dispute processes, including costs, outcomes, risks, and rewards.
  • Composure under pressure.
  • Develop operational plans and manage resources effectively.
  • Analyse and interpret financial data.
  • Price and/or peer review significant deals.
  • Incorporate coverage, uncertainty, and potential legal outcomes into pricing.
  • Communicate complex ideas and exposure matters to senior and executive management.
  • Explain and negotiate deals with counterparties, including where relationships may be strained by coverage disputes.
  • Develop and deliver presentations.
  • Build strong working relationships.
  • Train and mentor junior staff.
  • Lead projects and serve as a best-practice and quality resource.
  • Global Employee Relations & Regulatory Expertise: Understands multinational employment frameworks and manages global ER risks with sound judgment and consistency.
  • Operational Excellence & HR Service Integration: Partners with global HR Operations and Technology to deliver integrated, scalable HR solutions and a unified employee experience.
  • Executive Communication & Relationship Effectiveness: Communicates with global executive presence; builds strategic relationships across cultures, regions, and business units.

Responsibilities

  • Identify commutation targets, engage counterparties, price transactions, and negotiate deals.
  • Contribute to the broader commutations strategy.
  • Identify and resolve internal and external business challenges related to commutations.
  • Work with Senior Management to include commutation plan savings in the Enstar US Business Plan.
  • Track progress against the commutation plan throughout the year.
  • Own all assumed and ceded commutations involving US-domiciled counterparties.
  • Liaise with Client Management teams on commutations for portfolio companies.
  • Represent the company externally with regulators, professional services firms, and the wider market as required.
  • Take reasonable steps to ensure the accountable business area complies with applicable laws, rules, regulations, good governance, and Enstar’s shared values, including putting clients at the heart of the business.
  • Undertake additional duties as required, including valuation and/or due diligence.
  • Interpret internal and external issues and recommend solutions and best practices.
  • Guide others in resolving complex issues within the role’s specialist area and address complex problems affecting cross-functional business processes and outcomes.
