About The Position

Union Labor Life Insurance Company is actively recruiting an AVP Business Strategy and Planning for our Bethesda, MD office. This person will serve as a strategic partner to the President of the Life & Health Division of The Union Labor Life Insurance Company. This role supports annual business planning, runs special projects and strategic initiatives on behalf of the President, and produces the analysis and presentations that support divisional decision-making. The role is intentionally broad, providing exposure across underwriting, operations, account management, sales, and supplemental lines, as well as divisional strategy, financials, and trustee and broker relationships. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical and communication skills, sound judgment and discretion with confidential information, and a commitment to supporting union members and their families through high quality work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Insurance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required
  • Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in corporate strategy, business planning, consulting, insurance, healthcare, financial services, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, manage competing priorities, and drive results across multiple functional areas.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret financial, operational, and market data and translate findings into actionable business recommendations.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills, including experience preparing executive-level materials, board presentations, and strategic reports.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with significant autonomy.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and other business productivity tools required.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of the life and health insurance industry, medical stop loss insurance, employee benefits, or the Taft-Hartley/multiemployer marketplace is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support annual business planning, goal setting, and tracking of progress against divisional objectives.
  • Research market, competitive, and regulatory developments in medical stop loss and Life insurance in the Taft-Hartley/multiemployer space and translate findings into implications for the division.
  • Run strategic initiatives and special projects assigned by the President, coordinating across functional leaders. Pick up time-sensitive priorities and own them through to completion.
  • Identify opportunities to improve process, drive growth, or gain efficiency across the division, and bring forward recommendations.
  • Build presentations, board and trustee decks, rating-agency materials, and analytical packages. Turn complex data, claims analytics, book-of-business performance, into clear, decision-ready insights.
  • Prepare briefing materials and talking points for executive, trustee, and broker meetings.
  • Partner with the VPs of Operations and Underwriting and the AVP of Account Management to build working knowledge of each function and what drives divisional performance.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as required.
