About The Position

This position will support the VP of Internal Audit for Finance, Platforms and Strategy with the planning and execution of risk assessments, audits, and continuous monitoring activities to provide an independent and objective assessment of the risk management practices, governance and controls over the Company’s financial and regulatory reporting processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in audit, accounting, financial services, or a related field; in lieu of a degree, 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Holds or is actively pursuing CPA, CIA, or another relevant professional certification
  • Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required
  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process
  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years combined experience in internal audit, public accounting, regulatory (e.g., FRB, OCC, FDIC), or relevant banking/financial services roles
  • Strong understanding of internal audit concepts, risk-based auditing, and audit lifecycle execution
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the IIA International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF)
  • Proficiency in audit planning, audit program development, test design, and efficient execution
  • Strong process and control evaluation skills, including identifying and assessing control gaps and deficiencies
  • Knowledge/experience with U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting, and SOX requirements and related processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate objectives, risks, processes, controls, and actionable recommendations
  • Ability to integrate business, operational, technology, and financial considerations into audit assessments
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues objectively and recommend practical, risk-aligned solutions to complex control, financial and technical issues
  • Solid understanding of business technologies and their impact on the control environment
  • Strong analytical, risk management, and problem-solving capabilities; high attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while contributing effectively to team objectives.
  • Strong PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Responsibilities

  • Lead audit engagements from planning through reporting with limited direction from the Senior Audit Manager
  • Support the Senior Audit Manager and Audit Director in the annual risk assessment and development of the SYF Internal Audit plan
  • Conduct and document detailed process walkthroughs with management, including the identification of process risks and controls
  • Document clear audit work papers that succinctly articulate purpose, scope, procedures and conclusions of test work performed
  • Identify control gaps or control deficiencies and assess the impact to the business
  • Ensure effective and efficient execution of audits in conformance with professional and departmental standards, budgets, and timelines
  • Validate closure of audit issues in a timely, complete, and accurate manner, including regulatory matters (e.g., MRAs) and other high-risk issues
  • Prepare high-quality audit deliverables, including planning memos, audit programs, issue write-ups, and audit reports; communicate results to Internal Audit leadership and business management
  • Maintain awareness of emerging economic, regulatory, and business risks; recommend updates to risk assessments, audit plans, and audit programs as needed
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, and demonstrate effective influence and professional skepticism
  • Research and apply relevant banking regulation, reporting, and operational topics to audit work and risk assessments
  • Serve as a subject matter advisor within assigned areas; provide coaching and technical guidance as appropriate
  • Maintain professional competency through ongoing development and adherence to the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Standards and departmental policies
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned
