About The Position

The AVOP Trainer is responsible for delivering in-class onboarding sessions for new hires working in airport, transportation, and security-related roles. This role ensures all employees receive required regulatory, safety, and security training. The Trainer sets the tone for professionalism, compliance, and safety from day one and ensures all new hires understand the operational, regulatory, and behavioral expectations of working in a controlled airport environment.

Requirements

  • Experience delivering training or onboarding, preferably in aviation, transportation, or security environments.
  • Knowledge of security guard training standards, provincial security regulations, and airport security protocols.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and classroom management skills.
  • High attention to detail with excellent documentation and administrative accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain airport security clearance (RAIC/DA).

Nice To Haves

  • Certification or diploma in Training & Development, Security, Law Enforcement, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver certified AVOP training programs, including in-class theoretical instruction on airside safety, Airport Traffic Directives, pavement markings, signage, lighting, radiotelephone protocols (where applicable), and related GTAA requirements.
  • Conduct practical airside driving sessions and assessments to prepare students for GTAA practical tests.
  • Prepare students for GTAA AVOP written and practical examinations (including site identification, mandatory questions, and pass thresholds).
  • Collect, track, and maintain complete records of training classes, including attendance, course evaluations, tests, progress, completions, and post-training supports.
  • Coordinate and track participant enrolment, progress, and certification outcomes; ensure up-to-date records in compliance with GTAA and provincial/federal requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for AVOP-related student and client inquiries.
  • Identify training gaps, recommend improvements to AVOP delivery methods and materials, and support continuous improvement in training programs.
  • Stay current with GTAA Airport Traffic Directives updates, Transport Canada standards, and best practices in adult education for aviation safety.
  • Suggest and/or support the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures related to AVOP training functions.
  • Consult with managers and clients to determine staff AVOP training needs and objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned, in alignment with the goals of the contract and AVOP training needs.
