About The Position

This position is for an experienced lawyer (15 to 20 years of experience) ready to take the helm of our civil and commercial litigation department. As the head of a growing team currently composed of 6 to 7 lawyers, 3 legal technicians, and 1 assistant, your role will not be limited to operations: you will build the future of the department. In addition to continuing your legal practice, you will play a key role in structuring the department: managing operations, evolving practices, strengthening standards, developing team culture, mentoring talent, and managing growth. You will work in collaboration with senior management to shape your work environment, implement your vision, and contribute directly to the firm's influence.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor of Laws degree.
  • Be a member of the Quebec Bar.
  • Have 15 to 20 years of experience in civil and/or commercial litigation.
  • Possess a strong reputation as a litigator.
  • Possess an active client base as a lawyer in civil and commercial litigation or another related field.
  • Have delegation skills and be able to supervise the work of lawyers, paralegals, and legal assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Take charge of civil and commercial litigation files, in the sub-fields of law corresponding to your areas of expertise.
  • Represent a clientele composed of individuals and SMEs before the judicial bodies.
  • Supervise the work of the lawyers, legal technicians, and legal assistants in your department.
  • Ensure the quality of legal services.
  • Provide individual coaching to department members on client files.
  • Distribute the workload within the department.
  • Be the voice of your department in corporate projects.
  • Participate in management committees, in collaboration with senior management and the heads of other departments (monitoring objectives, performance, and corporate projects).
  • Establish and update department policies, processes, and tools.
  • Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of your team members.
  • Support the professional development of your team members: identify needs, set objectives, develop the firm's training offer, and manage training budgets.
  • Conduct performance evaluations of your team members.
  • Create a healthy, motivating, and collaborative work environment.
  • Manage absences, vacations, and replacements.
  • Acknowledge achievements and foster recognition.
  • Ensure the achievement of the department's billing objectives.
  • Ensure sound financial management of client files.
  • Participate in the review of client invoices.
  • Manage fee adjustments and intervene in situations requiring special attention.
  • Authorize payment arrangements with clients.
  • Participate in decisions in cases of conflicts of interest.
  • Supervise professional inspections.
  • Manage situations involving ethical or professional responsibility issues.
  • Support initiatives to improve client experience.
  • Identify new market or client opportunities.

Benefits

  • Annual base salary between $200,000 and $220,000, depending on experience and skills.
