Avionics Test Specialist

Mach Industries•Huntington Beach, CA
•$40 - $52

About The Position

Mach Industries is seeking a hands-on Test Specialist to independently plan, prepare, execute, and troubleshoot electrical and hardware tests. The role works closely with Test Engineering, Electrical Design Engineers, and other engineering teams to understand hardware functionality and requirements, determine appropriate test objectives and methods, and develop practical procedures and acceptance criteria. The specialist owns test execution from setup through results, investigates failures to isolate their causes, and helps improve test coverage, reliability, and repeatability across prototype and production hardware. The role also provides technical guidance to Test Technicians and maintains clear, traceable test records and revision-controlled procedures. Applicants must meet applicable U.S. government export-control eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain the necessary authorizations. The role may require access to information protected by EAR and ITAR regulations.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in electrical, electronics, avionics, or hardware testing, or equivalent demonstrated capability.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and perform tests independently, rather than only follow existing procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical requirements.
  • Proficiency with oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, logic analyzers, and related test equipment.
  • Experience writing test procedures, defining pass/fail criteria, documenting results, and systematically troubleshooting failures.
  • Strong communication, technical documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Availability to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Must meet the stated U.S. export-control eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain required authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with aerospace or defense hardware, embedded electronics, avionics, or system integration testing.
  • Experience with NI DAQ hardware, LabVIEW, automated test equipment, and test fixtures.
  • Familiarity with CAN, UART, RS-422/485, Ethernet, and discrete I/O hardware interfaces.
  • Experience supporting product development, design verification, acceptance testing, or production failure analysis.
  • Associate degree or technical training in electronics or a related discipline; an engineering degree is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Review hardware requirements, schematics, block diagrams, and interface documentation to identify test objectives, risks, and test-coverage gaps.
  • Determine test methods independently, including instrumentation, configurations, measurements, and pass/fail criteria.
  • Create, review, and maintain test plans, acceptance test procedures, checklists, and instructions for prototype and production hardware.
  • Build, configure, and verify test setups using bench instruments, DAQ systems, harnesses, fixtures, and automated test equipment.
  • Perform hardware bring-up, functional verification, integration tests, and repeatable bench testing with minimal supervision.
  • Execute test procedures safely and consistently, capturing traceable results, anomalies, deviations, and configuration details.
  • Troubleshoot failed tests and unexpected hardware behavior using schematics, measurements, and systematic isolation techniques.
  • Distinguish device-under-test failures from test-fixture, instrumentation, wiring, software, or procedure issues; reproduce and characterize failures.
  • Document findings and communicate technical evidence to engineering and manufacturing teams to identify root causes and verify corrective actions.
  • Improve procedures, test coverage, fixtures, and automated test workflows based on results and lessons learned.
  • Prepare concise test reports and maintain accurate records, equipment configurations, and revision-controlled procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance to Test Technicians on setup, test execution, troubleshooting, and laboratory practices.

Benefits

  • Healthcare, dental, and vision plans.
  • Retirement savings plans.
  • Paid time off.
  • Continuing education, training, and career-growth funds.
  • Performance-based incentives.
  • Stock options or equity participation.
