About The Position

As a key member of the Engineering team, the Project Engineer – Avionics Systems will report to the Director, Engineering and will be responsible for system design, development, and certification, managing projects from conceptualization to physical development, working with customers and stakeholders to fulfill project requirements, and mentoring and supervising system engineers. This is a full-time, permanent position located at our North Bay, ON facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering with a focus on avionics systems
  • 3-5 years experience in design, analysis and certification of avionics systems modifications such as but not limited to: Mission management system integrations, EO/IR sensor integrations, EFP / PED electrical provisions, ADS-B, TCAS, TAWS A systems, Radio Altimeter upgrades / installations, CVR/ FDR upgrades / installations, Terrain / Search Radar installations
  • Eligible for P.Eng license in the province of Ontario.
  • Demonstrated knowledge with testing, troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Transport Canada Civil Aviation Regulatory Certification requirements
  • Ability to manage a team of fabricators and installers to achieve a common objective
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently with minimal guidance from senior engineers.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work for a Canadian company and provide a clear criminal background check.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work for a Canadian company and provide a clear criminal background check and must be able to obtain a Government of Canada Secret Level Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in aerospace engineering considered an asset
  • Familiarity with Dash 7, Dash 8 and CRJ aircraft considered an asset.
  • Transport Canada Aircraft Certification Specialty and Change Product Rule Specialty Training or similar considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with Safety Analysis (i.e., SAE ARP 4761), industry certification standards (i.e., DO-160), and regulatory requirements for a wide range of certification projects considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret regulatory guidance to develop engineering data that supports minor or major repairs and modifications for customer aircraft.
  • Use sound engineering principles and prepare engineering designs and reports with a focus on avionics systems modifications.
  • Support the development of conceptual designs, feasibility studies, estimates, and aircraft modification to meet requirements of proposed modification projects.
  • Create Certification Plans and demonstrate compliance to appropriate regulatory requirements.
  • Develop required written engineering reports to support the substantiation of projects (i.e., system safety assessment, reliability assessment, risk assessment, EWIS analysis, Functional Hazard Assessment, Electrical Load Analysis) to projects against regulatory (including guidance material), customer and company requirements.
  • Generate and submit supplemental aircraft manual documentation as required for repairs and modifications to the fleet (Maintenance Manual Supplements, Flight Manual Supplements, Wiring Manual Supplements, Illustrated Parts List Supplements).
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to junior engineering personnel in support of individual professional growth.
  • Work with a team of fabricators and installers to achieve the incorporation of designs onto the aircraft.
  • Coordinate with appropriate vendors in support of engineering projects.
