About The Position

As an FAA Certified Part 145 Repair Station, Hillsboro Aviation provides comprehensive maintenance and avionics services for a wide array of aircraft. From privately owned airplanes and helicopters to fixed and rotor-wing fleet operators; our clientele encompasses private, commercial, and government sectors. Our full-service facility in Hillsboro, Oregon supports scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, modifications and upgrades, avionics, and AOG emergencies. Our factory-trained mechanics and avionics technicians boast an average of over 20 years of experience. As the Avionics Manager, you will report to the Service Center Manager and work closely with the Service Center Maintenance and Fleet Maintenance teams to manage avionics projects across both the service center and fleet, ensuring quality, safety, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, employee development, and sustainable financial performance. Ideal candidates are experienced avionics leaders who pair strong technical avionics expertise with a proven ability to build and motivate high-performing teams, all while maintaining a critical eye for quality, safety, and efficiency. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Additional hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required to maintain our commitments. Less than 10% travel is expected for this position.

Requirements

  • FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license
  • Associate degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of avionics installation and repair experience
  • Extensive experience installing Garmin avionics products
  • Ability to evaluate, quote, and execute complex avionics projects
  • Demonstrated relevant project management experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team and a departmental budget
  • Experience building and developing high-performing teams
  • General and business aviation experience
  • Working knowledge of FAA regulations and Part 145 Repair Station operations

Nice To Haves

  • Prior leadership experience in a Part 145 Repair Station
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Helicopter avionics experience
  • Experience with additional avionics OEMs (Honeywell, Collins Aerospace)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operations of the avionics department, ensuring all work meets FAA regulations, AS9110 standards, and company policies.
  • Own the quoting, customer communication, and delivery process for avionics projects, from initial scope of work and change orders through final delivery of the aircraft.
  • Lead the troubleshooting and repair of customer and fleet aircraft during AOG situations.
  • Manage the avionics budget performance, monitoring labor and parts margins and controlling costs.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the avionics team, setting clear and measurable expectations.
  • Plan capacity and manage scheduling to maximize hangar and technician utilization and meet promised delivery dates.
  • Partner with the Service Center Manager to grow the avionics business and promote Hillsboro Aviation throughout the industry.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with customers, vendors, and OEMs to support quality, availability, and long-term objectives.
  • Monitor key performance indicators for the avionics division, including revenue, margin, labor utilization, on-time delivery, quality, and safety.
  • Champion a strong safety culture and support Safety Management System (SMS) practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
