About The Position

The Principal Avionics Inspector (PAI) oversees and provides safety assurance for certification, surveillance, compliance, enforcement, and inspection activities involving assigned air carriers, airmen, and designees. The role ensures that the assigned organization complies with Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR), particularly in relation to its Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program (CAMP). The position is based in Anchorage, Alaska, and focuses on avionics in a complex air-carrier environment. As the principal representative for regulatory surveillance and risk management, the PAI exercises full certificate authority over a major air carrier with extensive and complex operations, including large fleets of turbojet aircraft used for passenger and freight service. The inspector applies advanced technical knowledge, promotes regulatory compliance and safety, identifies hazards, and supports risk management. The work has broad effects on aircraft operations and the safety of the flying public, and may require regular assistance from managers, inspectors, and administrative staff. The PAI plans and carries out programs and studies, advises field-level Aviation Safety Inspectors on complex policy interpretations, and addresses issues involving advanced multi-engine turbojet aircraft and the operator’s CAMP. The inspector monitors program requirements and schedules, adjusts work as needed, communicates with air-carrier officials and government and civil aviation counterparts, and keeps front-line management informed. The role also advises office management, prepares and coordinates technical and priority correspondence, and performs other duties as required.
