Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) (Air Carrier Operations)

Federal Aviation Administration•Oklahoma City, OK

About The Position

This position is in the FAA Office of Aviation Safety, Flight Standards Service, Flight Technologies and Procedures Division, Flight Research and Analysis Branch (AFS-430). The incumbent serves as a technical expert developing technical and scientific standards, programs, policies, procedures, and flight-deck criteria for 14 CFR Part 121 flight operations and advanced technologies in transport and non-transport category aircraft. The role plans and conducts complex flight research, leads major technical and scientific studies, supports the development of operational concepts and regulatory guidance, and provides aviation safety oversight related to flight operations and procedures in the National Airspace System. It addresses technologies and operational areas including flight displays, advanced flight-deck design, crew interfaces, instrument procedure design and charting, navigation and communication systems, and airspace design. The inspector evaluates aircraft systems, procedures, and technologies; supports operational approvals; recommends research and development needs; and develops policies and criteria for emerging aviation technologies and procedures. The position may serve as a simulator project pilot on Agency-level research involving Boeing and/or Airbus aircraft, analyze flight-track parameters, evaluate flight-crew systems and innovative interface concepts in piloted simulation, and develop or conduct training. The role also maintains knowledge of aircraft operations, instrument procedures, current government and industry research, and FAA NextGen applications.
