About The Position

NiSource is seeking a Summer Aviation Intern to join their team. This internship offers a valuable opportunity for students to gain practical experience in aviation operations, data analysis, regulatory compliance, and safety management, with a specific focus on unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Interns will work on meaningful tasks, collaborate with experienced professionals, and receive mentorship. The program provides a broad overview of NiSource's operations and the utilities industry. This is a 12-week summer program starting in May 2027, designed for students entering their junior or senior year in the fall of 2027. The role is based in Columbus, OH or Valparaiso, IN, and candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location to be eligible. NiSource operates as a public utility, providing essential services 24/7, and employees may be required to support emergency response efforts, potentially working outside normal hours.

Requirements

Must be a rising junior or senior pursuing a degree in Aviation, UAS Operations, or related field
FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship

Nice To Haves

Prior experience with UAS-related projects
Private Pilot License

Responsibilities

Assist in the planning and coordination of UAS operations and flight schedules
May act as Remote Pilot in Command of select UAS missions
Support data collection and reporting for operational performance, safety metrics, and compliance tracking
Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and scheduling teams to ensure operational readiness
Contribute to the development of project execution schedules and crew briefings
Provide administrative support for meetings and document preparation
Engage in safety management system activities and risk assessments
