About The Position

Seeking qualified professionals to support Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aviation Safety (AVS) programs through analysis, technical support, and mission execution activities addressing aviation operational, regulatory, and safety challenges across the National Airspace System (NAS). This role supports high-impact aviation safety initiatives, modernization efforts, and emerging technologies shaping the future of the National Airspace System (NAS).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of direct aviation experience in flight operations, or equivalent experience
  • Experience as a pilot with a commercial or airline transport pilot rating (as appropriate)
  • One year of direct experience in UAS regulatory analysis is desired
  • Bachelor’s degree may be waived with ten years of relevant experience performing the above duties
  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card Permanent Resident (minimum 3+ years of U.S. residency) and Public Trust approval
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and eight years of direct aviation experience concerning flight operations
  • Two years of direct experience in UAS regulatory analysis is desired
  • Bachelor’s degree may be waived with ten years of experience in performing the above duties
  • Bachelor’s degree and twelve years of direct aviation experience in flight operations, or equivalent experience
  • Three years of direct experience in UAS regulatory analysis is desired
  • Bachelor’s degree may be waived with fifteen years of experience developing, evaluating, or managing aviation operational or training programs, or aviation safety regulatory and oversight programs or a combination of both
  • Master’s degree in aeronautics, aeronautical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related aviation discipline and twelve years of direct aviation experience in flight operations, or equivalent experience
  • Direct experience either in developing, evaluating or managing aviation industry safety policies and programs, or developing, implementing and managing governmental aviation safety regulatory and oversight policies and programs, or a combination of both
  • Master’s degree may be waived with a bachelor’s degree and twenty years of relevant experience performing the above duties

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with FAA Headquarters and supporting cross-organizational collaboration and executive-level communications
  • Applied technical expertise in aviation safety programs or aviation-related domains
  • Experience supporting development of technical studies, operational recommendations, or aviation guidance materials

Responsibilities

  • Analyze aviation operational, regulatory, and safety issues supporting safety in the NAS
  • Develop and evaluate recommendations to improve aviation safety and operational performance
  • Support policy development and the creation of standards, guidance, and technical documentation
  • Applies experience with UAS systems, capabilities and emerging technologies, FAA Safety Management System and FAA regulations 14CFR Part 107 and Part 91 as it relates to UAS
  • Analyzes Part 107 waivers, UAS airspace waivers, and petitions for exemption
  • Conduct data-driven analysis, technical studies, and research to support program objectives
  • Prepare technical reports, findings, and recommendations for Government and stakeholder use
  • Support development of briefings, position papers, and technical guidance to inform FAA and stakeholder decision-making
  • Collaborate with team members, FAA program offices, and industry stakeholders on analytical and operational initiatives
