Job Summary he Audiovisual (AV) Tech Coordinator supports reserved events and meetings in the Hopkins Student Center. This includes AV equipment setup, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and strike-down. This position reports to the AV Tech Manager and is typically responsible for AV services reserved in the meeting and multi-purpose spaces. This position will work on-site at Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus. JHU is recognized as America’s first research university, a place that has revolutionized higher education in the U.S. and continues to bring knowledge and discoveries to the world. JHU opened its first-ever student center in August 2025. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 or more years of work experience required
  • 2 years of AV experience in a Hospitality or Higher Ed. environment
  • Strong working knowledge of AV equipment
  • Working knowledge of sound systems
  • Working knowledge of projectors and TVs
  • Working knowledge of camera and lighting techniques
  • Working knowledge of Mac and PC computers
  • Written, verbal, and comprehension skills in English required

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and strike audio visual equipment in a hospitality environment
  • Participate in the event planning and booking processes as needed
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients during planning and event
  • Troubleshoot AV equipment and replace defective or malfunctioning parts
  • Perform routine inspection of audiovisual systems and equipment
  • Support internal audiovisual training and assist professional staff with audiovisual equipment recommendations for specific events. Make recommendations for future purchases in consultation with USS IT Services
  • Train part-time staff on audiovisual set up and troubleshooting techniques
  • Document troubleshooting procedures and resolutions for future reference
  • Assist with general event set up and break down
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule and evaluate part-time student employees
  • Responsible for approving timecards and preparing necessary documents/reports for bi-weekly payroll
