AV System Designer

Amplify People,
$75,000 - $85,000Remote

About The Position

We are seeking an AV System Designer to own the design and engineering side of the company's commercial and residential projects. This is a combination engineer and designer seat: you'll translate project requirements, site conditions, and client goals into complete system designs, drawings, and bills of material that the sales team can quote and the field team can build. Design throughput is the constraint on how quickly this company can put proposals in front of clients, so this role sits right at the center of its growth plans. You'll work closely with leadership, who walks the job sites and brings back the field detail you need, and with the sales team on scope and feasibility. A commercial AV background is the strongest foundation for this work. Commercial design experience translates readily to residential, and leadership is happy to bring you up to speed on the residential side. The person who thrives here is self-directed, documents thoroughly, communicates clearly in a remote working relationship, and is genuinely interested in using AI to work faster and better.

Requirements

  • Hands-on AV system design experience, with the ability to take a project from requirements to a complete, buildable design without oversight.
  • Working knowledge of AV switching and distribution, control systems, and networked AV.
  • Experience with Extron and Control4.
  • Proficiency with D-Tools and Visio, or comparable design and CAD documentation tools.
  • Strong written documentation and communication skills suited to a remote working relationship.
  • Located on the East Coast, with availability to travel to Glens Falls, NY periodically.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial AV design experience, particularly in higher education, K-12, or public sector environments.
  • Q-SYS experience or certification.
  • Control4 programming experience.
  • Lutron or other lighting control design experience.
  • Residential integration exposure.
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools in design, research, or documentation workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Design commercial and residential AV systems, including AV switching and distribution, control, networked AV, and supporting low voltage technologies.
  • Produce system drawings, line diagrams, and technical documentation in D-Tools and Visio.
  • Build accurate bills of material and support the sales team in developing proposals and estimates.
  • Collaborate with leadership and sales on scope, feasibility, and design intent following site walks.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate research, documentation, and design workflows.
  • Maintain and improve design standards and documentation practices across projects.
  • Travel to the Glens Falls office periodically for planning, collaboration, and team time.

Benefits

  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Retirement plan with company match
  • Company profit sharing
  • Family leave
