About The Position

We are currently looking to fill 5 positions for an Auxiliary Power Engineer (Term) to join our Power Production team in a temporary position. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for all aspects of the safe and cost-efficient operation of the high-pressure boiler turbine unit(s) and all associated auxiliary equipment.

Requirements

• A 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate and a minimum of three (3) years experience as a Power Engineer in a generating station or industry with similar processes are required.
• Must be able to demonstrate acceptable color vision for operation of control monitoring equipment.
• Proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
• Must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.

Nice To Haves

• If no qualified candidates apply, applicants who possess a 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate will be considered as Power Engineer Apprentices.
• As a registered apprentice, you will be responsible to complete all papers and skills required to successfully obtain your 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate within a specific time frame.

Responsibilities

• Work effectively as a member of the Power Production Operations Team and be capable of functioning in a planned work environment.
• Participate in competency-based training, regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.
• Work on an as required basis within the confines of the NSPI/IBEW Collective Agreement.
• Be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
• Be responsible for solid environmental performance of the plant and support all ISO 14001 processes and initiatives.
• Participate as a member of the Emergency Response.
• May be temporarily assigned to other locations to assist other areas when required and will be expected to travel throughout the province.
• Ensure that NSPI is in compliance with all NERC/NPCC reliability standards related to Power Production.
• Primary residence must be located within 60 minutes of headquarters, and may be required to respond to call-outs.
• Comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.
