About The Position

Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Auxiliary Operator, assigned to a rotating shift schedule, is responsible for assisting in all phases of plant operation. The incumbent monitors and operates all auxiliary equipment. When necessary, the incumbent may perform plant lab or maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • An Associate's degree in a related field and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in power plant operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively to other employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to use a personal computer to access the intranet and Microsoft Office software as required.
  • Must have a current driver's license.
  • Must meet all physical and environmental requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the principles of power plant operation, including the steam water cycle, basic electricity, hydraulics, and fluid and gas properties is also preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and recording hourly readings for all auxiliary equipment, and if necessary, taking corrective action to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Operating auxiliary equipment during startup, normal conditions, and shutdowns under the direction of the Shift Supervisor in a safe and reliable manner.
  • Operating demineralizers, water filters and chlorinators, adding chemicals to boiler as directed and monitoring cooling water system.
  • Maintaining proper lubrication, air, water, and gas supply to all operating and standby equipment.
  • Reporting any abnormal operating conditions to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Performing minor mechanical maintenance on auxiliary equipment and reporting such to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Assisting in the training of new personnel.
  • Performing mechanical maintenance, E&I maintenance or laboratory duties as assigned.
