About The Position

The Auxiliary Health Clerk for the Oakland County Health and Human Services Department will support the Children's Village staff and residents by providing Administrative and Medical Assisting services. In this role you would perform para professional duties, provide routine services for County health clinics, perform various outreach, supporting conference and contractual agency sites and other locations as assigned. You'll build valuable clinical skills, administrative skills, and interpersonal skills to further your development as a community health professional. You'll gain experience and knowledge of services to support the development of juveniles with their treatment plans. You'll have a challenging yet rewarding experience ensuring that juveniles receive proper medical care and development.

Requirements

Possess a valid Medical Assistant certification such as Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), etc.
Possess at least an Associate’s Degree or equivalent education from an accredited college or university with coursework in Journalism, English, Psychology, Sociology, Early Childhood Education or closely related areas
OR Have Merit System status in any classification and be currently employed in the Health & Human Services Department
Have successfully completed at least the equivalent of one (1) year of college at an accredited college or university with coursework in Journalism, English, Psychology, Sociology, Early Childhood Education, or closely related areas
Have two (2) years of full-time work experience in the Oakland County Health & Human Services Department conducting or assisting in various para-professional health assignments and activities requiring considerable knowledge and a thorough understanding of the various elements involved
Ability to communicate accurately to convey information
Ability to operate and/or utilize typical office and medical office equipment and supplies

Responsibilities

Assisting professional and para professional staff involved in performing technical health screening tasks
Phlebotomy
Conducting minor laboratory tests at clinics/conference sites
Taking, interpreting, and reporting physical measurements and findings
Rescheduling missed clinic appointments
Assisting in drafting and distributing health education and public health information materials, including any associated record keeping
Scheduling orientation and staff development programs and materials
Attending selected staff/supervisory group meetings and in service education programs
Assisting professional staff in various routine licensing and regulatory functions, program planning and evaluation activities and the collection of information and preparation of reports, following established guidelines
Utilizing current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments
Assists professional public health employees at various locations throughout Oakland County
Assists and provides information concerning available services and procedures to persons visiting or seeking aid at the Health Division
At clinic/conference sites, may conduct routine laboratory tests, screening tests and/or performs selected physical measurements (e.g., height, weight, head circumference) as assigned
Provides prior authorization screening for services
Provides follow-up regarding client services
Follows-up on selected children referred from programs to assure medical attention is provided for their problem
Assists in organizing health education materials and audio-visual aids and displays
Participates in agency task force when appropriate
Attends selected staff meetings and supervisory group meetings
Attends staff meetings and in-service education offerings for public health nursing groups
Makes appointments for various services, codes visits, separates and organizes reports, maintains files and records, inventories supplies, and performs a variety of associated duties
Assists professional staff in routine licensing and regulatory procedures
Following established guidelines, assists professional staff in monitoring local agency management information system reports by reviewing computations
Assists professional staff in monitoring local agency contract compliance following established guidelines
Assists professional staff in ensuring the accuracy and appropriateness of reports and data generated at both the local and central agency level following established procedures
Assists the public by providing referrals and information such as phone numbers and locations of agencies
