This is an entry-level physical plant management position. The Auxiliary & Facilities Services Officer assists the building manager of Hamilton Library, and occasionally others, with a variety of one-time and routine tasks related to maintaining the Hamilton building. This role may involve supervising student assistants in performing these tasks. Responsibilities include conducting inventories and surveys of library physical equipment and property, maintaining room inventories, organizing storage areas, and sorting shelving parts. The officer will also move or supervise the moves of library furniture and equipment, and maintain library equipment. Additionally, they will supervise shelving contract work as necessary, regularly survey building conditions, note items or conditions requiring repair, replacement, or professional attention, and prepare and track building repair work orders sent to Facilities Management. Special projects involving planning and implementation of moves of staff, equipment, and/or library materials are also part of the role. The officer will coordinate the disposal of surplus, obsolete, or broken equipment and furniture. They will perform and/or supervise regularly scheduled graffiti removal, monitor for mold and insect infestations, and monitor air-conditioning ducts for dust accumulation. Coordination with Preservation staff for moving materials related to recovery and restoration of library collections is required, and occasional assistance in treating damaged library materials may be needed. The role also involves helping in the supervision of contract security guards and may require opening and/or closing the building. Building air-conditioning and ceiling leak inspections will be performed at scheduled times (holidays, weekends) when the building is closed, and the results communicated to Library Administration and other appropriate individuals. Other duties as assigned are also part of the role.
