Job Summary The Auxiliary Equipment Operator is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power plant equipment to ensure uninterrupted electric service to CenterPoint Energy’s customers. This position operates and monitors equipment associated with steam generation and auxiliary systems while maintaining compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Mechanical aptitude or mechanical experience.
  • Experience in an industrial, power generation, or process-oriented environment.
  • Ability to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment, including respirators.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders; walk inclines; kneel, bend, crawl, stand, and sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely operate company vehicles and equipment, including pickup trucks, forklifts, and UTVs.
  • Ability to work rotating twelve-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Ability to work overtime as business needs require.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via phone and radio.
  • Required to be available for overtime, emergency response, and call-out assignments as needed.
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environments, noisy conditions, and at elevated heights.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and control auxiliary and steam-related power plant equipment in accordance with established procedures
  • Operate valves and start, stop, and monitor rotating equipment
  • Operate fly ash systems and perform pyrite dumping operations.
  • Monitor and maintain lubricating oil systems and associated equipment.
  • Record operating data and observe equipment conditions to identify abnormal operation
  • Perform basic maintenance activities using hand tools
  • Issue, receive, and clear lock-out/tag-out clearances in accordance with company safety procedures
  • Serve as a first responder to enviormental incidents or spills and take appropriate corrective action
  • Perform general plant housekeeping to maintain a safe and orderly work enviornment
  • Safeguard self, coworkers, and the public by adhering to all safety rules, enviornmental regulations, and company policies
  • Support emergency operations and restoration efforts when required
