About The Position

Argonne is seeking an Auxiliary Equipment Operator who, under the supervision of the Foreman and the direction of the Stationary Engineer, performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on building and related auxiliary equipment for the Steam Plant and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) facility. The role operates steam plant and CHP equipment, supports boiler water treatment, and assists the Stationary Engineer as needed. The position description is general and non-exhaustive; other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High school degree or equivalent.
Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, including compressors and pumping equipment.
Minimum of 1 year or equivalent or related experience operating steam plant equipment.
A Stationary Engineers license is required; the selected candidate must obtain it on their own time within 12 months.
Good knowledge and use of a PC.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work weekends and rotating shifts.

Responsibilities

Start, stop, and operate all steam plant and CHP equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance and equipment inspections as assigned.
Handle steam plant chemicals for boiler water treatment.
Clean assigned auxiliary areas and equipment.
Perform routine inspections and readings to verify proper operation.
Assist the Stationary Engineer as required.
